Low-emissivity Coated Glass, Low-emissivity Glass or Low-E Glass for short, is a kind of coated glass with relatively high reflectance to far infrared rays, whose wavelength ranges from 4.5I? M to 25I? M. Also compoundable with the solar control function, it can be called as Solar Control Low-emissivity Coated Glass.
For ordinary glass, the Surface Emissivity (E Value) is around 0.84; For Low-E Glass, the E Value is below 0.25 (For off-line double silver coated Low-E Glass, the E Value can go down to less than 0.04). This kind of Low-E coating, whose thickness is less than 1% of a hairline, has a very high reflectivity to far infrared emission. It can reflect back over 80% of far infrared emission. However, for ordinary Clear Float Glass and Heat Absorbing Glass, the reflectivity to far infrared rays is only around 12%. So Low-E Glass functions very well in insulating heat emission from permeation. In winter, just like a heat reflector, it can reflect interiorly most of the heat emission out of indoor heating equipment and objects, preventing the heat indoors from dissipating outwards, thus saving heating expenses. In summer, it can prevent heat emission out of outdoor ground and buildings from coming indoors, thus saving air-conditioner refrigeration expenses. The visible light reflectivity of Low-E Glass is usually under 11%. Approximate to that for ordinary white glass, it is lower than the visible light reflectivity of ordinary Solar Control Coating Glass, avoiding reflex pollution. Thanks to these excellent characteristics of Low-E Glass, it can be regarded as the green, energy conservation and environmental protection building materials. |
